Carbon and nutrient dynamics in East African wetlands

Completed projects

"Reconciling future food production with environmental protection", subproject of the BMBF initiative "GlobE – Global food security"

The subproject focuses on the sustainable use of wetlands in selected countries in East Africa – Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The project does not only focus on soil science but also on agricultural and socio-economic issues due to the different German and African project partners. Especially due to the high population growth in the respective countries and the associated demand for food, the best possible use of the wetlands is of extraordinary importance. The aim of the project is to secure and increase food production and security with the least negative effects on the environment.
